Founded in 1928 as a “living diary” by Milanese architect and designer Gio Ponti, domus has been hailed as one of the world’s most influential architecture and design journals. With both style and rigor, it has provided consistent coverage of major themes and stylistic movements in product, structure, interior, and industrial design.

This fresh reprint features highlights from the 1960s issues, documenting the bold, functional, and often futuristic designs of a decade shaped by pop culture and radical materials like synthetics and plastics. Conventional elegance gave way to experimentation and innovation.

To be featured in domus at the time, a project had to meet criteria such as function, spatial clarity, intellectual strength, originality, or grace. Among the visionary names included: Ray and Charles Eames, Gae Aulenti, Kenzo Tange, Verner Panton, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Ettore Sottsass, Carlo Scarpa, Angelo Mangiarotti, Cesare Maria Casati, and Eero Saarinen.

The domus distilled collection includes:

  • Seven volumes spanning 1928–1999

  • Over 4,000 pages of influential projects

  • Original layouts and covers with contextual captions

  • Introductory essays by renowned architects and designers

  • Appendices with English translations (many previously available only in Italian)

  • A comprehensive index of designers and manufacturers
