This visually stunning book is a testament to the unique collaboration, spanning three decades, between photographer/illustrator Matt Mahurin and musician Tom Waits.
Having photographed Waits for magazine portraits, album covers, and music videos, Mahurin was inspired to resurrect 100 dormant film negatives as a jumping off point to explore his own surreal, poetic, and at times dark vision. The images range from traditional portraits to those that capture Waits in concert, but most are richly imagined scenes in which Waits is more muse than musician.
In addition to the diverse images, Matt Mahurin’s Tom Waits includes a foreword by Waits, an essay by Mahurin about their long-term collaboration, and 20 original paintings, drawings, photographs, and digital images inspired by Waits’ song titles.
