The book begins with a cricket singing from the sky, next to the clouds and the moon. From among the clouds, he peers down at the earth, and his song travels through the air to reach the ears of people who dream with his music. Down below, in the park, the cricket loses his friends (the moon and the clouds), but in solitude, he understands the transience of life. “Like the bodies of the clouds and the moon,” he tells himself, “my body is a dream.”
