Mujeres, Casas y Ciudades (Women, Homes and Cities) proposes a re-writing of the history of architecture and urbanism based on the contributions made by women who have been silenced in general histories. The book focuses on the inhabited environment, from design to politics, from architecture to urbanism; all synthesized in the home and the city, as a representation of the private and the public. The home as a metaphor for architecture, the city as a synthesis of human actions.
Furthermore, to do so from a feminist stance necessarily implies the deconstruction of mainstream historiography, revealing the false neutrality and universality in the transmission of knowledge and in the construction of historical narratives. In this sense, it is not trivial to talk about women, architecture and urbanism, since, as in other fields of knowledge, art, science or politics, women are not represented equally, nor are they even represented equally on merit. For this reason, it is necessary to revisit the history of architecture and cities, to rewrite it, incorporating women as protagonists.
